GIVING SOME DISTANCE: RailRiders LHP Josh Rogers tossed 6.1 innings of one-run baseball last Thursday morning, good for his 5th quality start of the season and followed it up with No. 6 over 7.0 shutout innings Tuesday night. Between those two starts, RailRiders starting pitchers threw only 9.2 innings over the last four games, requiring 26.1 innings of bullpen work (5.0 IP of which were absorbed by typical-starter RHP Erik Swanson behind MLB-rehabber, RHP Adam Warren). SWB starters allowed 10 runs on 7 H, 6 BB and 3 HBP (16 baserunners) in the 1st inning in the four-game series vs. Syracuse. Following Tuesday's performance, Rogers has made 10 starts this season one more quality start (6) and outing of 6.0+ IP (7) than the rest of his teammates in the other 40 games combined.
DOUBLE-DIGIT HITS: For the third straight night, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders collected 10+ hits in a game. It's the fourth time this season the team has had a streak of at least three games in a row with 10+ hits, including a season-best four straight games from April 22 - April 25.
SHUTOUTS: The RailRiders collected their third shutout win of the season, following a 4-0 win @ Louisville in their 50th game of the season Tuesday night. This puts the team on pace for 8.4 shutout wins this season a year after throwing 13 and two years after setting the franchise record with 24.
SPREADING THE WEALTH: The RailRiders connected for four homers as a team Tuesady night, including the team-best 7th of the year from INF Mike Ford and the 5th of the year from OF Clint Frazier and INF/OF Ryan McBroom. This gives SWB five players with 5+ HR and seven players with 4+ HR this season. That's the second-most in the International League behind the Durham Bulls who have six players with 5+ HR and 10 players with 4+ HR.
POWERING UP: The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders approach the end of the month of May riding a power surge. In May SWB has played 27 games and has gone 13-14 compared with a 10-13 April. With room to improve offensively and pitching, the power numbers have turned on in a big way for the lineup with 31 HR in the month (1.15 HR/G) compared to 15 HR in 23G in April (0.65). Their 31 HR in the month ranks 3rd in the league, though a .243 AVG ranks 9th in the 14-team International League and a 4.12 ERA ranks 10th.
