May 30, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Norfolk Tides News Release
Renato Núñez had two hits and scored a run, but five Pawtucket hurlers combined to limit the Tides to seven singles as the Tides dropped a 4-2 decision to the Red Sox Wednesday night at Harbor Park.
Núñez was the lone Tides hitter to register a multi-hit game, as he singled in the first frame before singling and scoring in the sixth. It was the sixth multi-hit contest for Núñez since he joined the Tides on May 16th, as he's now hitting .293 through 15 games with Norfolk.
John Means (1-1) suffered the loss after allowing three runs on six hits over 4.1 innings of work. He walked three and struck out three, but needed 96 pitches to navigate his outing. He departed with the score tied at 1-1 and the bases loaded in the fifth, but the Pawsox plated two runs in the inning on a walk and a hit batter to take a 3-1 advantage.
Norfolk pulled a run back on three singles and an error in the sixth, but the Pawsox extended their lead to 4-2 in the ninth on an RBI single by Mike Ohlman.
Fernando Rodriguez (2-1) earned the win with three innings of hitless relief, while Ryan Brasier earned his fifth save of the year with a scoreless ninth. The five Pawsox hurlers combined strike out 12 without walking a batter, giving Pawtucket pitching 21 strikeouts and zero walks over the first two games of the series.
With the loss, Norfolk has now dropped three consecutive games for the first time this season.
The two clubs will conclude their three-game series on Thursday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 6:35. Asher Wojciechowski (3-1, 3.52) will make the start for Norfolk and be opposed by left-hander Jalen Beeks (2-3, 2.74).
