Charlotte Knights News Release

(ALLENTOWN, PA) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the middle game of their three-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a score of 5-0 on Wednesday from Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA. Wednesday's loss snapped Charlotte's season-high three-game win-streak.

RHP Carson Fulmer (1-1, 3.27) was solid over six innings for the Knights, but was the hard-luck losing pitcher on the evening. Fulmer, who started for just the second time this season with the Knights, gave up three runs on five hits. He walked four batters and struck-out seven. Overall, Fulmer tossed 96 pitches (59 for strikes).

After winning the opening game of the series on Tuesday by a score of 5-1, the Knights were unable to do much against Lehigh Valley starter Cole Irvin (6-1, 2.73) on Wednesday. Charlotte left fielder Jake Elmore had two of the team's four hits on the night. Elmore finished the night 2-for-3, while first baseman Casey Gillaspie and center fielder Jacob May had one hit each. May's single in the ninth inning helped knock Irvin out of the game.

Irvin pitched into the ninth inning and just missed a complete game shutout on Wednesday. In all, Irvin gave up four hits and walked just one batter over 8.2 innings pitched. He struck-out six. RHP Yacksel RÃ-os got the final out of the game in the ninth inning.

The IronPigs scored three of their five runs in the third inning against Fulmer to take a 3-0 lead. Lehigh Valley tacked on two more runs along the way to take the game two victory and tie the series up a 1-1.

The Knights will conclude their three-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) on Thursday night from Allentown, PA. Pre-game radio coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action. RHP Jordan Stephens is scheduled to start the middle game of the series.
