LAST TIME OUT: Monday's game began with a leadoff double by Toledo Mud Hens' rehabber Leonys Martin. Nine innings later, that stood as the lone hit allowed by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders pitching in a 5-0 victory over the Mud Hens.

Nestor Cortes got the start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and he was dialed-in. After surrendering the leadoff double, he struck out the side in the first inning and carried that momentum throughout the rest of his start. He notched 10 strikeouts in the game which was the third time this year a RailRider starting pitcher has hit double digits. The last seven starts have featured glowing numbers for Cortes. He has allowed three earned runs over 38.1 innings (0.70 ERA) which has lowered his season ERA from 6.75 to 3.11. Also during that time opponents are hitting just 23-for-138 off of the southpaw.

Rehabbing New York Yankee catcher, Gary Sanchez, drilled a line-drive home run out over the 406-foot mark in centerfield in the 9th inning to cap the scoring for SWB. It was his second in as many days on rehab, and he is now 2-for-8 with a pair of homers leading into tomorrow's expected day-off for him.

It was only the third time this season the Mud Hens have been shutout, but the second time in four games after being shutout just once in the first 89 games of the year.

9 NO-HIT INNINGS: The RailRiders threw 9.0 no-hit innings Monday night at Fifth Third Field... sort of. After allowing a leadoff double to Leonys Martin to begin the game, Nestor Cortes, Raynel Espinal and Tommy Kahnle recorded 27 outs without allowing a hit. The last combined 1-hitter thrown by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre came July 14, 2016 @ Gwinnett (Chad Green, 8.0 IP // Kirby Yates, 1.0 IP). Meanwhile, the last individual 1-hitter for SWB was turned-in by Brett Myers April 25, 2002 vs. Toledo. Since then, Jeremy Cummings has thrown a no-hitter for the RailRiders Sptember 3, 2006 @ Rochester.

PITCHING STAYS HOT: The RailRiders pitching staff had turned a corner since the calendar flipped to July. In the first 13G in July, the staff has thrown 116.0 innings and has allowed 35R/26ER for a 2.02 ERA and has given up 2R-or-fewer in 12-of-13G. The team entered July with a 3.94 staff ERA and has lowered it to 3.66 despite Friday's performance where they allowed 9R/9ER on 16H to the Red Wings. If you subtract that effort from the month of July, in the other 12G the RailRiders have pitched to a 1.43 ERA (26R/17ER in 107.0 IP). Saturday's 4-0 shutout win was the team's 6th shutout win of the season, and was the first nine-inning shutout since June 1 @ Indianapolis, 37 games prior. It took just two days for them to record their next shutout in a 5-0 win Monday night @ Toledo.

ROLLING THROUGH THE BREAK: Over the last 32G the RailRiders have own a 22-10 record to bring them up to 2nd place in the International League North standings. The RailRiders are 7-0-3 in their last nine series and won 6-of-7 games leading into the All-Star Break before dropping the first two games coming out of the break against Rochester. SWB won the final two games of their series in order to earn a split of the four-game set. They still have not lost a series since dropping 2-of-3 games June 5-7 against the Durham Bulls.

SLINGING IT: The RailRiders continue to get a strong performance out of its bullpen over the last two weeks. In the last 24G (since June 17), the bullpen arms (not named RHP A.J. Cole) have combined for 85.1 IP, 48 H (5.1 H/9) and 21R/16ER (1.69 ERA).
