July 17, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Luis Marte drove in four runs to propel the Stripers to a 7-2 rout over the Indians on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. Jason Martin had two hits and Georgia native Adam Frazier walked twice while recording one RBI and one run scored in Indy's third straight loss.
Gwinnett (43-52) continued its winning ways against Indianapolis (50-43) behind a dozen hits and another seven-inning outing, the latest gem from right-hander Matt Wisler.
The home team scored four runs in the second off Tribe righty Alex McRae, the big blow being a three-run double off the bat of Marte. He eventually touched home on a Rio Ruiz sacrifice fly.
Frazier gave Indy its first run of the night in the third with a sacrifice fly of his own, but the Indians got no closer.
Alex Jackson provided the Stripers a 5-1 advantage in the bottom of the third, ripping a double to right to score Carlos Franco. Jerrick Suiter recorded his second outfield assist of the season on the play, starting a 9-4-2 relay to nab Sean Kazmar Jr. trying to score from first.
Franco made it 6-1 with a two-out single in the fourth. McRae (L, 3-8) finished the frame but didn't return for the fifth. He allowed six earned runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Kevin Kramer dropped a single into left in the sixth to score Frazier who had walked and taken second base on a groundout. Kramer is batting .412 (14-for-34) over his last 10 road games.
Gwinnett tallied its seventh run off Josh Smoker in the seventh thanks to a Marte single.
Wisler (W, 4-4) held the Tribe to two runs on six hits. He issued three walks and struck out six.
The Indians have lost four of six games out of the All-Star break.
Indy and Gwinnett play game three of their series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. EDT. The Tribe will send southpaw Brandon Waddell (4-4, 5.19) to the bump. Gwinnett has not yet named its starter.
