July 17, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs opened their six-game road trip Monday with a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Clippers. A two-run top of the eighth inning broke a 1-1 tie to lift the Pigs to 19 games above .500.
Cole Irvin tossed six scoreless innings in his first start of the second half. Irvin allowed three hits and struck out three while just walking just one. He left with the lead but did not earn a decision in the.
Joey Meneses put the IronPigs on top with a solo home run in the top of the second, his 16th home run of the year. Meneses now leads the IL in home runs.
After Columbus knotted the score in the seventh against the Pigs pen, the offense was quick to respond.
Dean Anna singled home Danny Espinosa to retake the lead against James Hoyt (0-1). The Pigs added one more in the inning on a wild pitch to bring home Adron Chambers.
Tom Windle (9-3) is now tied for the IL lead with nine wins on the season. Windle took over with the bases loaded and although he hit the first batter he faced, allowing one inherited runner to score, Windle was able get the next two batters to strand the bases loaded.
Hector Neris added a scoreless inning of relief while striking out two. Neris has yet to allow a run in the IL this season. Pedro Beato (24) continues to build his IL saves lead with his 24th of the year. Beato tossed a scoreless ninth to close out the game.
Lehigh Valley and Columbus continue their three-game series Tuesday afternoon at 12:05. Jacob Waguespack takes the mound against Dominic DeMasi.
The Pigs will not return to Coca-Cola Park until July 24 when they welcome the Gwinett Stripers.
