Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
NO RUNS FOR YOU: Kyle Davies (6-6) and two relievers combined on a five-hitter as the RailRiders shut out the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium on Friday night, 4-0. SWB swept the short two-game set with its 12th straight win at McCoy Stadium. Pawtucket (38-45) fell to a season-worst seven games under .500.
WHO OWN DA PAW SOX?: The RailRiders have fared better against Pawtucket (9-3) better than any other team this season, including a 5-0 mark in the Ocean State. In fact, they have taken 14 of their last 17 meetings with the PawSox going back to last season.
DAVIES' DAY: Davies improved to 5-1 in seven road outings. He has gone 1-5 in eight starts at PNC Field. His one true jam came in his sixth and final inning when Pawtucket loaded the bases with one out. Davies induced a foul pop to third and a weak check-swing grounder to first from former big leaguers Carlos Peguero and Allen Craig to quell the threat. Run support has been a problem. In his six losses, SWB had plated three total runs before he was yanked. Including runs scored after his departure from those games, he received nine scores in those six setbacks.
TIME TO MAKE THE DONUTS: The RailRiders earned their sixth shutout win and their first since a 7-0 final on May 29 versus Norfolk. Davies started the team's first shutout of the season in his SWB debut at Syracuse on April 18. Pawtucket is the only team the RailRiders have blanked more than once. Jaren Long, Tyler Webb and Jose Ramirez combined on a 2-0 win at McCoy Stadium on May 25.
STREAKING SLUGGER: Despite a nearly week-long layoff in the wake of being hit in the head with a fastball, Austin Romine owns the IL's longest hitting streak of 2015. His 1-for-2 effort with a pair of walks and two runs scored has given him a 19-gamer. Romine has hit .377 (29-for-77) during his run. Adonis Garcia set the RailRiders era record with a 21-gamer from July 17-Aug. 30, 2014 that tied for the longest in the league last season. Red Barons shortstop Pablo Ozuna set the overall SWB mark with a 27-gamer from July 27-Aug. 24, 2004.
I AM THE LAW: Aaron Judge singled and walked on a 1-for-3 night, extending his hitting streak to six games. In his first five Triple-A affairs, he went 2-for-17 (.118) with five strikeouts. In the six games since, he has gone 10-for-23 (.435) with six walks. During his short SWB tenure, he has crushed left-handed pitchers (7-for-13, .538/.684/.923/1.607) while he has struggled against right-handers (5-for-27, .185/.258/.185/.443).
KNOW YOUR COLE: Cole Figueroa posted his eighth multi-hit showing in 10 games and his sixth in a row. He went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored, lifting his batting average to a season-best .307. His average sat at .184 after an 0-for-3 day at Norfolk on May 11. Since then, he has hit .380/.431/.524/.955 over 43 games played. In that time he ranks among the IL's best in AVG (1st), OBP (1st), SLG (2nd) and OPS (2nd).
BOBBY'S WORLD: Through May, Rob Segedin owned slashes of .236/.299/.360/.659. Since the calendar flipped to June, his season has changed dramatically. He has hit safely in 11 of his 13 games played in that time, going 18-for-50 (.360) with six extra-base hits, eight RBIs, three walks and 10 runs scored. His efforts have shot his average up to .281, the best it has been since he closed play on April 26 at .303.
OFF THE RAILS: The RailRiders went 2-3 on their road trip...They still own the IL's best road record (26-13, .667)...Buffalo comes off a 2-3 homestand...After sweeping a rain-shortened two-game set in Moosic last weekend, the Bisons were swept in three games by Gwinnett, but rebounded by taking two from Syracuse.
