July 4, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Mud Hens took to the field on Independence Day against in-state IL division rival Columbus in the first game of a two game set Saturday night. For the Hens, it was Buck Farmer taking the hill, looking to earn his team leading eighth win of the season. Farmer was elected to the Triple-A All Star Game on Thursday that will take place in Omaha, NE.
The right hander toed the rubber for five frames, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out five Clippers.
The Toledo offense picked up right where they left off after Friday's 4-1 win over Indianapolis, as they got the scoring started early. In the top of the first, Steven Moya sent the first run home on a line drive single off of Columbus starter Michael Roth, scoring Alexi Casilla. In the third Moya was back up with runners in scoring position and his groundout enabled Alexi Casilla to score once again for Toledo. In the top of the fifth, the Hens flexed their muscles off of Roth once again as Moya and HR king Mike Hessman slugged back to back long balls off of Roth extending their lead to 5-3.
The Columbus Clippers headed into the bottom half of the sixth down by two runs, but with Lonnie Chisenhall and Jerry Sands in scoring position, Erik Gonzalez tied up the ballgame with a single to left off of Hens reliever Josh Zeid. In the seventh the Clippers lineup broke the tie, once again off Zeid as Jesus Aguilar singled on a gorund ball to right, scoring Tyler Naquin and taking the lead 6-5.The relentless Hens responded in the top of the eighth as they sent four runs across the board, highlighted by a Corey Jones double scoring Bryan Holaday and Jeff McVaney. Guido Knudson came on to earn the save in the ninth for the Hens.
The two teams are back in action on Sunday at 5:05 pm in Columbus. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
