Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (35-49) rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to pick up a 4-3, come-from-behind win over the Rochester Red Wings (44-38) on Saturday night at Frontier Field.
Logan Moore's RBI single in the top of the eighth scored Aaron Altherr and gave the IronPigs a 4-3 lead that they wouldn't relinquish. Altherr had tied it at three earlier in the inning with an RBI single that plated Russ Canzler who had reached on a bloop double that Wilkin Ramirez appeared to lose in the lights in right field.
RHP Seth Rosin (2.0 IP, 2 H, K) got the win for the Pigs and is now 3-1 on the season while LHP Adam Loewen (1.0 IP, 2 K) retired the side in order in the ninth to pick up his third save.
RHP Alex Meyer (2.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K) was tagged with the loss for the Red Wings and falls to 3-4 on the year.
The IronPigs took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth as Altherr (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R) delivered a run via an RBI double, advanced to third on the throw and scored when Moore grounded into a 6-4-3 double play. Both runs in the inning were unearned after Jordan Danks reached on an error charged to Wings SS Jorge Polanco to start the frame.
Rochester took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the home half of the inning. Oswaldo Arcia tied it with a two-run shot off of Pigs starter Aaron Nola before Eric Farris grounded into an RBI fielder's choice which allowed Reynaldo Rodriguez to score and give the Wings the lead.
It was Arcia's second homer in as many nights and his fourth of the season.
Nola (n/d) gave up the three runs on nine hits while fanning six over six innings of work.
Trailing 3-2, the Pigs had runners at first and second with one out in the top of the seventh but Wings starter Tyler Duffey was able to get Tyler Henson (2-4, SB) to ground into a 6-4-3 double play and escape the jam.
Duffey (n/d) surrendered two runs (none earned) on four hits to go along with four walks and two strikeouts in 7.0 IP.
Lehigh Valley's Cord Phelps went 0-5 on the night and saw his hitting streak snapped at nine games.
The series continues on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. as RHP Jason Berken (4-5, 3.50) gets the ball for the IronPigs against Rochester LHP Taylor Rogers (7-4, 2.96).
