August 2, 2023 - Pacific Coast League (PCL)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Albuquerque, NM - Right-handed pitcher Trey Supak set the tone for the Las Vegas Aviators by tossing four hitless innings, and the visitors plated five runs in the second en route to an 8-4 win over the Isotopes on Tuesday evening.

Trailing 6-0 in the fifth, Albuquerque got back into the game with a three-run spurt, keyed by RBI singles from Connor Kaiser and Jimmy Herron. However, that is as close as the Isotopes would get, as the Aviators used a pair of late solo homers to ice the victory.

Topes Scope: - Albuquerque was held to five hits, their 12th time registering five or fewer this season. Three of the occurrences have come against Las Vegas, as a trio Aviators pitchers tossed a three-hit shutout on May 11. The Isotopes were also limited to five knocks on May 10.

- The Isotopes have been limited to three or fewer runs in 10 of their last 17 contests.

- Albuquerque struck out four or fewer times for the fifth time this season and second in the last three contests. They punched out thrice on Saturday against the River Cats.

- The home team had just one extra-base hit (Willie MacIver double), the 22nd time they have been held to zero or one.

- Cole Tucker walked to extend his on-base streak to 23 games. Even though Tucker is just 8-for-42 over his last 12 contests, he has walked 14 times during the stretch.

- Hunter Stovall tallied his third multi-hit performance over his last five games. They are all singles, his last extra-base knock came courtesy of a double on July 7.

- Wynton Bernard hit into two double plays in the same contest for only the second time in his professional career (June 17, 2015 with Double-A Erie).

- Bernard's nine-game hitting streak came to an end. He slashed .381/.395/.643 with two doubles, three homers and nine RBI during the stretch.

- The Isotopes did not connect on a home run for the first time since July 19 at Sugar Land (10-game streak).

- Isotopes starter Phillips Valdez allowed seven earned runs in 1.2 innings. He has compiled a 17.28 ERA (16 ER/8.1 IP) over his last three outings.

- Albuquerque has allowed 20 long balls over the first seven games of this homestand.

- For the fourth time this season, an Albuquerque starter did not complete two innings for non-injury or rehab assignment purposes. Valdez (April 9 vs. Salt Lake, tonight) and Jeff Criswell (April 19 vs. OKC, July 16 vs. Salt Lake) have each failed to do so twice.

- The Aviators plated five runs in the second inning, meaning Albuquerque has surrendered five or more tallies in a frame on five instances over the last four contests.

- Opposing baserunners have stolen successfully on their last 23 attempts against Isotopes catchers. The last caught stealing from an Albuquerque backstop came when MacIver nabbed Bryson Brigman on July 5 at OKC.

- Albuquerque lost a home series opener to Las Vegas for the first time since June 9, 2016, snapping a string of nine straight victories.

- The Isotopes have trailed by at least five runs at some point in 32 of 103 games this season.

On Deck: The Isotopes aim to even the series tomorrow evening when southpaw Josh Rogers takes the baseball for a start. Vegas is scheduled to counter with right-hander Adrian Martinez. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
