
Suns Pitching Keys 7-3 Win Over Shorebirds

Hagerstown, Md. - The Hagerstown Suns (21-11) kept the Delmarva Shorebirds (20-12) scoreless over to the final six innings en route to a 7-3 win on Tuesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
The Shorebirds jumped on the Suns early. In the second, Mike Flacco started the inning with a single. Two batters later, Justin Dalles blasted a line drive to the wall in left-center field to score Flacco from first to give the 'Birds a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Dudley Leonora hit a double down the right field line to score Dalles.
The Suns responded with three runs in the bottom of the second. Shorebirds starter Luis Noel walked the first two batters of the inning. With one out, Michael Taylor doubled home Wade Moore. Then, Blake Kelso hit a double off the left field line to score two more runs.
The Shorebirds tied the game in the third. Jonathan Schoop, who extended his hitting streak to nine games, single to open the inning. Kipp Schutz followed with a single to advance Schoop to second. Then, on a grounder to short by Mike Flacco, Suns second baseman Adrian Sanchez mishandled a double play toss and Schoop came around third to score.
The Suns grabbed the lead right back in the third. Jason Martinson singled and Wade Moore drew his second walk. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Michael Taylor walked to force in Martinson.
In the fourth, the Suns increased the lead to 6-3. Sanchez started the inning with a single. Then, David Freitas hit an RBI double. Freitas came into score on an error by Dudley Leonora.
Bryce Harper hit a two-out RBI single in the fifth inning to bring home Sanchez to extend the lead to 7-3.
The Shorebirds recorded only one hit over the final six innings.
Suns starter Bobby Hansen earned the win over six strong innings. He allowed seven hits and two earned runs. Shane McCatty and Chris Manno allowed just one hit over the final three innings to close out the Shorebirds.
Shorebirds starter Luis Noel walked a season high seven batters in three innings. Jarret Martin allowed two earned runs over three innings while D.J. Ferguson and Ashur Tolliver each threw a scoreless inning.
The Shorebirds and Suns will play game three of the series on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m.
