CHARLESTON, SC - Fans of the Charleston RiverDogs may not be able to steal a base like Slade Heathcott or run for a touchdown like Forrest Gump, but they can "Be Your Own Fan" by lacing up their sneakers at The Joe for the 8thannual "Run Forrest Run 5K Race and Fun Run."

New this year is chip timing for quick and accurate results. The course is TAC certified and features split times at each mile marker.

Proceeds from the event benefit the MUSC Storm Eye Institute.

"The race is fun for all ages and caters to every type of participant," said RiverDogs Special Events Director Melissa McCants Azevedo. "Our 5K race begins in front of The Joe and finishes at home plate where runners are greeted by RiverDogs players."

Preregistration (by May 13) cost for the race is $30, and includes a race packet, t-shirt, one ticket to that evening's RiverDogs game, in-game awards ceremony and a post-race party with dinner provided by Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Bubba Gump Shrimp Company's very own Forrest Gump will be on hand to start the rain-or-shine race and mingle with runners throughout the evening. Late (after May 13) and on-site registration is $35, and t-shirts are available while supplies last.

Additional game tickets for the May 21 contest are $7 each. The first 1,000 fans will receive a RiverDogs Nite Lite and this 7:05 pm game features the Inflatamaniacs as these giant, inflated characters provide fun and music for the whole family. It is also another Go Local Saturday, where residents of the Tri-County area receive $1 off their game ticket by showing a valid local ID at the box office. And kids 14-under get to run the bases after the game.

Registration forms are available at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and online at www.RileyParkEvents.com or www.active.com.
