Strong pitching moves Hagerstown past Hoppers

Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
GREENSBORO, NC- The Hagerstown Suns downed the Grasshoppers for the second time in as many nights, as Suns' pitchers held the Grasshoppers at bay, allowing just four runs.
In just his third start of the season, Hagerstown starter Paul Demny (1-1) worked 5 2/3 innings of three hit baseball to once again silence the Hoppers' bats.
Hoppers shortstop Paul Gran doubled in the first and later scored on a throwing error, but the Grasshoppers failed to spark anything else offensively, falling to the Suns 5-1.
Demny responded to the unearned run by retiring 11 straight Grasshoppers hitters before giving up a single to Daniel Pertusati in the 5th.
For Demny, the third time was a charm, besting his season standards in innings pitched, hits, and strikeouts. Demny struck out seven Hoppers and tossed four consecutive scoreless innings to record his first win of the year.
The Hagerstown bullpen provided a glimmer of hope by way of a Jeremy Synan homerun in the 9th inning, but ultimately closed the door, as Carlos Peralta collected his second save of the season.
Grasshoppers' relievers Wade Korpi, Brandon Todd, and Pete Andrelczyk came on for starter Brad Hand (2-3) and combined to strike out seven over six innings. The Hoppers bullpen scattered three runs on two hits, but didn't have the offensive firepower to mount a comeback.
The Hoppers, now 4-15 when out-hit by opponents, failed to muster anything offensively, but were led by Synan, who belted his third homer on the way to his 6th multi-hit game of the season.
With the loss, the Hoppers have dropped two straight home games, the first time they've done so all year. The Grasshoppers are now 18-16 and in danger of matching their longest losing streak of the season.
The Grasshoppers will match-up with Hagerstown again tomorrow for the third game of their current home series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
