Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Savannah's 2008 Opening Day starter Mike Antonini has been promoted to Triple-A Buffalo, the New York Mets announced today. The southpaw from Drexel Hill, Penn. becomes the first former Sand Gnat in the Mets era to earn a Triple-A promotion.

Antonini, 23, started the year with Double-A Binghamton and went 4-1 with a 4.88 ERA in six starts. He pitched well in his last start against the Portland Sea Dogs at home, going 6.2 innings and allowing just one run on five hits with six strikeouts.

The left-hander's promotion comes on the heels of a big-league camp invite this season after pitching this past offseason with the Leones de Ponce of the Puerto Rican Winter League. Antonini isn't even a year removed from starting a game in a Sand Gnats uniform as at this time last year he was 3-1 with a 2.76 ERA for Savannah.

For his minor league career, Antonini is 14-9 with a 2.93 ERA in two plus minor league seasons at five different levels.

Antonini takes the hill for the Bisons in game one of a doubleheader with the Gwinnett Braves with a 5:35 p.m. first pitch from Buffalo, N.Y.
