Street Named ECHL Player of the Month

WHEELING, WV ‚¬" The Wheeling Nailers are pleased to announce that rookie forward Ben Street has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Player of the Month for December.

Street scored 20 points (10g-10a) and was +9 in 10 games during December. His consistent play helped lead the Nailers to an 8-3-1 record in December, as the team extended its first place lead in the North Division.

Street, 23, registered at least one point in nine of his 10 games during the month, highlighted by a pair of four-point games. Street scored two goals and added two assists in a 7-2 win against Gwinnett on Dec. 10 and then tallied three goals and an assist in a 5-3 victory over Cincinnati on Dec. 26. He also had a three-point game (1g-2a) in a 6-4 win over Kalamazoo on Dec. 3.

Street leads ECHL rookies with 13 power-play points and 152 shots. He is second among rookies with 32 points and is tied for second among rookies with 14 goals. Last week, he was named to the ECHL All-Star Team for the 2011 ECHL All-Star Classic which will take place in Bakersfield on Jan. 26.

The native of Coquitlam, British Colombia is currently recalled to Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton of the American Hockey League where he played one game this season. Prior to turning pro, Street posted 93 career points with the University of Wisconsin. His 30 points last season helped lead the Badgers to the Frozen Four National Championship Game.

The Nailers are back at home this weekend for a pair of games beginning Saturday at 7:35 p.m against the Reading Royals. The first 1,000 kids aged 14 and under will receive a free Nailers back pack courtesy of BB&T. Wheeling battles division rival Toledo on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. There will be a postgame skate with the team after the game, as well as an appearance by SpongeBob SquarePants.
