Las Vegas, Nev- The Las Vegas Wranglers dropped their first game of the new year to the Alaska Aces Wednesday night in front of 3,228 at Sullivan Arena. Jamie Bates tallied the lone goal for Las Vegas as Joe Fallon turned away 28 of 31 and falls to 6-5-1 on the season. The Wranglers tallied the first goal of the contest, but the Aces answered back with four unanswered goals including a shorthanded empty-netter to seal the victory for Alaska. Leading the way for Alaska was Wes Goldie with his two goals, one assist, and first star of the night recognition. Brian Swanson and Scott Howes also tallied for Alaska insuring that the top three scorers for the Aces all netted. The defeat knocks Las Vegas off their two-game winning streak and extends the Aces streak to nine straight wins. Gerald Coleman improves his record to 15-7-1 as the Aces now sit at 20-9-2 with 41 total points. The Wranglers still hold the first place spot in the Pacific division with 37 total points and an overall record of 17-8-3.

Jamie Bates tallied the late lone goal of the first period at the 19:41 mark to give the Wranglers their only lead of the match assisted by Geoff Paukovich and Ryan Huddy.

The Aces answered back with two goals in the second period to not only tie the game but take the lead for good. Wes Goldie scored his nineteenth goal of the season at 11:22 assisted by Scott Howes and Brian Swanson to knot the game at one. Scott Howes took the lead for Alaska with his tenth goal of the season at 14:05 of the second period assists going to Steve Ward and Wes Goldie. After two periods the Aces were in the lead 2-1.

Wes Goldie extended the lead even further at 14:20 of the third period with a power play goal assisted by Scott Howes and Daryl Boyle. Alaska tallied one final goal at 19:58 with Brian Swanson's shorthanded empty-netter assisted by Chad Anderson to lift Alaska to the 4-1 win.

The Wranglers face-off against the Aces again on Friday, the 7th, and Saturday, the 8th to complete their three-game set. Las Vegas does not return home until January 14th when they host the Ontario Reign.
