Atlanta Gladiators News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Paul Flache scored the go-ahead-goal in the second period, and the Gladiators snapped a three-game losing streak Thursday night at the BI-LO Center with a 3-1 win over the first-place Road Warriors.
Flache had the game-winning goal and an assist, Tim Miller had a goal and a helper, and Mike Forney chipped in two assists as Gwinnett (15-17-5) improved to 11-0-0 when leading after two periods of play.
Dan Kissel opened the scoring with just 30 seconds to go in the first. Aaron Bendickson fired a shot from the far circle on an odd-manned rush, and Kissel put in the rebound for his first goal in 11 games. It was 1-0 Gwinnett at the end of one.
Greenville evened the score just 3:12 into the second on Chris Chappell's fourth of the season, but the Gladiators battled back with a vengeance.
Flache buried a rebound off the far post at 7:33 for his fourth tally with assists to Miller at Forney, giving Gwinnett the 2-1 edge.
At 15:53 Miller batted a puck out of mid-air in the low slot on a waist-high saucer pass from Flache to push the lead to 3-1. Forney also added an assist and at the end of two the Glads had the 3-1 advantage. They also out-shot Greenville 24-11 through 40 minutes.
In the third, the Gladiators played lockdown defense and Chris Carrozzi made several stellar saves to preserve the lead. Carrozzi picked up his first win in eight starts, stopping 23 of 24 shots.
Gwinnett next faces the Road Warriors Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center for a 7:35 start.
