Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL ¬â¢s Los Angeles Kings, lost 4-3 to the Bakersfield Condors before 4,670 Reign faithful at Citizens Business Bank Arena Wednesday night.
Lane Caffaro got the Reign on the board first with a wrist shot through traffic that found the back of the net. Pat Bowen and Michael Pelech assisted on the play. Erickson made a sliding pad save against a Condor perched all alone on his doorstep and turned away a breakaway opportunity to keep the score 1-0 at the first intermission.
Pascal Morency scored the equalizer with a power play goal at 13:23 of the second period, but Chaz Johnson netted his tenth goal of the season to restore the Reign ¬â¢s one-goal lead, 2-1, at 17:52. Tape-to-tape passes from Shawn Collymore and Lane Caffaro found Johnson in the slot and he one-timed it past Peter Hirsch low on the stick side.
Brett O ¬â¢Malley gave Ontario a 3-1 lead with a short-handed goal early in the third period. However, Bakersfield scored three unanswered goals to win by a score of 4-3.
Hirsch made 14 saves to earn the win, while Erickson absorbed the loss with 28 saves.
Tonight ¬â¢s three stars were:
1) BAK - Vyacheslav Trukhno
2) ONT - Lane Caffaro
3) BAK - Pascal Morency
