Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

PAPILLION, NEB. - The Omaha Storm Chasers surrendered a season-high 20 runs on seven home runs to the Iowa Cubs in a 20-1 loss at Werner Park Wednesday night.

Iowa knocked Omaha starter Drew Parrish out of the game in the top of the first inning, as the Cubs struck the Storm Chasers lefty for eight runs on six hits, including four homers in the opening frame.

The game momentarily calmed down behind Parrish, as Joe Barlow threw a season-high 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball and Jackson Kowar allowed just one unearned run behind Barlow.

With the I-Cubs leading 9-0 after five innings, Will Klein surrendered a three-run homer to further the lead in the sixth inning, then Collin Snider allowed a grand slam in the eighth as Iowa pushed ahead further.

Evan Sisk allowed a single and home run in the ninth, Iowa's seventh long ball of the game to cap a 20-run scoring effort by the Cubs, the first time Omaha pitching had allowed 20 runs since September 11, 2021 in St. Paul.

Angelo Castellano became the first position player to pitch when he recorded the final two outs of the ninth inning, inducing an inning-ending double play ball.

Omaha was held hitless at the plate through the first five innings, before Nick Loftin broke up Iowa's no-hitter with an infield single in the sixth.

Tyler Gentry added a single in the seventh, then Adeiny Hechavarría got the Chasers on the board with the team's only run of the night in the eighth inning on an opposite field solo homer, his second straight game with a long ball.

John Rave added another hit in the eighth but Omaha was retired in order the rest of the way.

With the club's losing streak now at eight games, Anthony Veneziano will head to the mound Thursday at 7:05 p.m. CT as the Storm Chasers once again try and snap the skid.
