South Carolina Stingrays News Release
The Stingrays played four games last week earning two of the possible eight points on overtime losses at Augusta and against Charlotte. The team dropped to 6th in the South Division and the Stingrays are now winless in their last seven games going 0-3-4.
On Tuesday night, the team traveled to Augusta to play the Lynx. In a tough match-up including a short-handed penalty shot goal by the Lynx, the Rays ultimately lost 2-1 with a power play goal by Augusta in overtime. Behind goals from four different Stingrays (Cail MacLean, Matt Stefanishion, Evan Schwabe, and TJ McElroy) the Rays forced the game into overtime, but lost 5-4 on a goal by Blake Bellefeuille with 44 seconds left.
Back in action on Saturday, the Rays traveled to Gwinnett. The Stingrays out-shot the Gladiators 32-12, but the Gladiators out-scored the Rays 3-1. Stephen Werner scored the lone Stingrays goal. Daren Machesney left the game in the third period with an injury to his knee.
On Sunday, the Rays returned to the Coliseum for another game against the Checkers. Charlotte converted on two power play opportunities and defeated South Carolina 3-1. Marc Busenburg, who returned to the team before the game on Tuesday in Augusta, scored his fifth goal of the season.
The Stingrays would like to congratulate Bob Renkas, this year's Advance Auto Hit the Road with the Rays Winner. Bob will be traveling with the team on the trip to Pensacola on March 16th.
