Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (35-16-2) moved into sole possession of first place in the South Division thanks to a 6-3 win over the Augusta Lynx (30-23-3) on Tuesday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 5,622.
For the second straight game, the Everblades attacked quickly against Augusta scoring a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. Vince Bellissimo began the scoring by notching his 19th goal of the season just 3:22 into the contest, with the assists going to Brad Parsons and Adam Taylor. Dustin Johner then chipped in the first of his two goals on the night by lifting a shot over the glove of Augusta net minder Dave McKee and under the cross bar for a power play goal at 10:17. Jon Lehun and Derek Damon collected the assists on Johner's 20th goal of the season.
As the second period began, the Everblades struck once again on the power play when Johner slammed home his second goal of the night on a rebound at the top of the Augusta crease at 6:52. Lehun and Ryan Brindley earned the assists. Trailing 3-0, the Lynx made a hard charge through the remainder of the second period scoring twice before the horn sounded.
J.B. Bittner got the Lynx on the board at 10:38 of the frame with a shot from the blue line that snuck past Everblades goaltender Craig Kowalski inside the right post. Sean Blanchard then cut the Everblades lead to one with a power play goal at 14:30 when his shot from the left point snuck through traffic and clanked off the left post.
The Lynx completed the come back just 2:26 into the third period when Brian Passmore picked up his 15th goal of the season on a shot from the right circle. From there though, the Everblades closed out the game with three power play tallies in the final 11 minutes. Chris Dyment regained the Everblade lead at 9:10 of the period with his sixth goal of the season. Taylor and Bellissimo assisted on the marker. Parsons then got in on the fun chipping a loose puck at the right post past McKee at 12:08, with Bellisssimo and Hartlieb assisting on Parsons seventh of the season. The final goal of the night came once again off Dyment's stick on a shot from the right point that scooted between the pads of McKee at 15:27. Bellissimo collected his third assist of the game and Frank MacDonald added a helper as well.
Kowalski (22-9-1) helped the Everblades improve to 6-0-0 vs. Augusta this season by stopping 24 of 27 shots, while McKee saw his record fall to 23-12-2 after allowing the six goals on 43 shots.
On the power play, the Everblades closed out the night 5-for-8, while the Lynx finished the game 1-for-6.
