Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots finished off last week at 2-2-0-0 and currently have a record of 17-36-1-1. The Ice Pilots beat the Gwinnett Gladiators 7-3 and the Columbia Inferno 7-1, before falling to the Inferno 7-6 and to the Gladiators 4-1 in Gwinnett on Sunday.
ROSTER MOVEMENT: The Ice Pilots have claimed Steve Filak off of waivers and placed Dwayne Hay on the seven-day IR.
DODGE ICE PILOTS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: For the second straight week, Forward John Hecimovic is the Dodge/Ice Pilots Player-of-the-Week after notching 5 goals and 4 assists for nine points in four games. The Waterloo, Ontario native has 15 points in his last seven games, including 10 goals.
ICE CHIPS: Rob Rankin has extended his assist streak to 10 games with one assist on Sunday versus the Gladiators. He has 12 points over that 10 game period. The Ice Pilots have allowed just six power play goals in their last seven games. Erik Johnson has five points in seven games since joining the Ice Pilots in a trade from Cincinnati. The Ice Pilots have 11 wins at home this season, and are just three games below .500 when playing at the Hangar. The Pensacola Ice Pilots scored 20 goals in their last three games on home ice and went 2-1.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE:
TUESDAY, FEB. 27 @ COLUMBIA INFERNO, 6:05 PM CENTRAL, 7:05 PM EASTERN.
This series continues to be dominated by the visiting team as the Ice Pilots have played well at the Carolina Coliseum with three wins in four starts. The Columbia Inferno have three wins at The Hangar.
SATURDAY, MAR 3 AND SUNDAY, MAR. 4 VS. SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS, THE HANGAR, 7:05 PM CENTRAL ON SATURDAY, AND 6:05 PM ON SUNDAY.
This will mark the sixth and seventh meetings of the season between the Ice Pilots and the Stingrays. The Ice Pilots have won one game against the Stingrays and that took place in Pensacola on January 2nd.
BROADCAST SCHEDULE: Fans can tune into Tuesday's game on Classic Country AM1620 beginning with Ice Pilots Countdown to Face-off at 5:45 pm. The game follows at 6 pm with Denis J. Puska bringing you all of the exciting action. The broadcast is also available at www.icepilots.com by clicking on the Sportsjuice logo as well as video coverage provided by the B2 Networks. A high speed internet connection is required in order to view the game.
On Saturday, the broadcast begins at 6:45 pm and the Sunday game starts with the pre-game show at 5:45 pm.
ICE PILOTS REWIND:
PENSACOLA ICE PILOTS 7 - GWINNETT GLADIATORS 3
Sergei Ogorodnikov had four assists and seven different goal scorers lifted the Ice Pilots past the Gladiators 7-3. It was the Ice Pilots second win over Gwinnett this season. Scoring for Pensacola were John Hecimovic, Niko Tuomi, David Wrigley, Erik Johnson, Greg Watson, Dan Sullivan and Rich Meloche.
PENSACOLA ICE PILOTS 7 - COLUMBIA INFERNO 1
John Hecimovic and Erik Johnson each had two goals as the Ice Pilots routed the Inferno 7-1 last Thursday night at The Hangar. The Ice Pilots scored seven straight goals after giving up the first goal of the game. David Wrigley, Rene Gauthier and Rich Meloche had the other goals for Pensacola.
COLUMBIA INFERNO 7 - PENSACOLA ICE PILOTS 6
This game featured 13 goals and four different lead changes as the Ice Pilots rallied from two one-goal deficits in the third period only to lose 7-6. Nate Metcalf scored on the power play to make it 5-5, and then Erik Johnson tied the game with 65 seconds remaining in the third period to tie the game 6-6. Columbia notched the game winning goal in the final minute of regulation time. John Hecimovic had two goals and two assists, while Rob Rankin and Greg Watson picked up single goals. The Ice Pilots had three power play goals in the contest.
GWINNETT GLADIATORS 4 - PENSACOLA ICE PILOTS 1
The Pensacola Ice Pilots ran into a hot goaltender and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Gladiators in Gwinnett on Sunday afternoon. Greg Watson tallied the lone Ice Pilots goal in the third period that made the score 3-1 as they attempted to start a third period comeback.
