
Wranglers' McKenna Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Mike
McKenna of the Las Vegas Wranglers is the Rbk Hockey ECHL
Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 19-25, 2007. He becomes the first
three-time winner having captured the award for Nov. 13-19 and Nov. 27-Dec.
3.
The St. Louis, Mo. native was 2-0-0 and stopped all 64 shots he faced to
record his fourth and fifth shutouts of the season, tying him for the
league lead. He helped Las Vegas go 2-0-1 to stay on top of the Pacific
Division.
In his second professional season, the 23-year-old stopped all 22 shots he
faced in a 5-0 win at Victoria on Feb. 21 and made 42 saves in a 3-0 win at
Victoria on Feb. 24. The 42 stops is one off of his season high of 43 saves
on Dec. 1 at Idaho and Jan. 6 at Phoenix.
The 6-foot-2 and 190-pound McKenna, who has not allowed a goal in 169:03,
is 16-3-6 and leads the ECHL with a goals-against average of 2.14 and a
save percentage of .934.
Selected in the sixth round (172nd overall) by the Nashville Predators in
the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft, McKenna was 19-2-1 with a
shutout, a goals-against average of 2.13 and a save percentage of .923 in
25 regular season games as a rookie with Las Vegas last season. He earned
ECHL Rookie of the Month honors in December after going 6-0-0 with a
shutout, a goals-against average of 2.33 and a save percentage of .919 in
seven appearances. He was 1-1 with a goals-against average of 3.12 and a
save percentage of .905 in four Kelly Cup Playoff games with the Wranglers.
Voted as the starting goaltender for the National Conference he made 17
saves in the ECHL All-Star Game. McKenna, who was selected to the All-Star
Game in 2006 as well, has spent time in the American Hockey League this
season with both Milwaukee and Omaha after playing last season with
Norfolk.
He played four years at St. Lawrence University in the Eastern Collegiate
Athletic Conference where he was 32-44-8 with a goals-against average of
3.01 and a save percentage of .905 save percentage in 95 games. He was
named ECAC Rookie of the Week twice as a freshman in 2001-02.
