
Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Take Sleigh Ride into December as #1 Team in ECHL

The Week That Was...
The South Carolina Stingrays opened a six-game road trip over Thanksgiving last week with a pair of contests against the Toledo Walleye and a meeting with the Kalamazoo Wings for a week record of 3-0-0-0, improved their overall ECHL-best record to 14-2-1-2, extended their point streak to five games (4-0-0-1) and remain unbeaten on the road (7-0-0-2).
The Stingrays kicked off the road trip Wednesday night against the Walleye at Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. Forwards Chad Painchaud (4 assists), Jordan Owens (1 goal, 2 assists), Andrew Cherniwchan (2 goals), Jack Downing (1 goal, 1 assist), Marc Hagel (1 goal, 1 assist), Scott Campbell (2 assists) and defenseman Zack Currie (2 assists) each recorded multi-point games and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis earned his first shutout of the season making 30 saves in a 7-0 win.
The two teams battled it out again on Friday with the Stingrays picking up their second-consecutive shutout, 4-0. Painchaud added two goals and extended his personal point streak to six games (4 goals, 8 assists), forward Wayne Simpson netted a goal and an assist and netminder David LeNeveu stopped all 32 Walleye shots.
On Saturday, the Stingrays met the Wings at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Downing and Hagel lit the lamp in regulation and Downing and Painchaud scored in the first two rounds of the shootout to help defeat the Wings 3-2.

Taking the Lead
The Stingrays are first in the South Division, first in the Eastern Conference and first overall in the ECHL with 31 points (14-2-1-2).
Forward Chad Painchaud is third in the ECHL with 24 points (9 goals, 15 assists), fourth in assists, first with 72 shots and tied for fourth with nine power-play points (3 goals, 6 assists).
Forward Chris Langkow is tied for first in the ECHL with two shorthanded points (1 goal, 1 assist).
Forward Marc Hagel is tied for second in the ECHL and first among rookies with three game-winning goals, tied for sixth overall among first-year players with 14 points (9 goals, 5 assists), first with four power-play points (3 goals, 1 assist) and third in goals (9).
Forward Anthony Collins is tied for third among ECHL rookies with five major penalties.
Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis is tied for first in the ECHL with a 1.77 goals-against average, first with 914 minutes played, second in wins with 11, third with 384 saves and fourth in save percentage at .934.
