South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Rob Flick scored twice for the second straight game and Parker Milner made 29 saves for the South Carolina Stingrays (32-25-2-1) in a 2-1 defeat of the Florida Everblades (38-15-2-3) in front of 7,078 fans Saturday on Pink In The Rink Night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Flick's tallies extended his point streak to five games and gave him 29 tallies on the season, while Steven McParland factored into the scoring for the fifth straight game and Milner earned his 19th win of the year.
The Rays took a 1-0 lead on Flick's 28th of the year at 10:27 of the first period. During a 4-on-4 situation, defenseman Max Nicastro kept the puck in the offensive zone by knocking it down to McParland in the corner, who sent a perfect pass to the stick of Flick in front of the net. The London, Ont. native beat goaltender Anthony Peters with a quick shot blocker side and South Carolina never relinquished the lead.
Flick added another strike for the lone goal of the second at 8:38. The team's leading scorer used a one-timer off a pass from defenseman Steve Weinstein that got through traffic in front of the net and past Peters. Forward Derek Arnold recorded the second assist on the play, his first point as a member of the Stingrays in his first contest as a Ray.
The Everblades made it a one-goal game when forward Stephen Macaulay scored at 12:28 of the third period, but Milner shut the door thereafter and held on for the win.
Peters finished the game with 27 saves for Florida in the loss. Both teams were unable to score on the power play in the contest with South Carolina finishing 0-for-4 and the Everblades ending at 0-for-3.
The two teams do battle once again for the final time during the 2016-17 regular season on Sunday at 3:05 p.m.
