Rushmore Plaza Civic Center = Heartbreak Hotel for Alaska last night as former Aces forward Ryan Walters scored a shorthanded goal at 16:09 of the third period to give the Rapid City Rush a 2-1 win over the Aces. The first two periods were scoreless until Tommy Olczyk drilled a one-timer at 5:29 to give the Aces a 1-0 lead. Ryan Misiak scored just 35 seconds later to tie the game and set up Walters heroics. An opportunity to increase the gap between the fourth-place Aces and fifth-place Utah Grizzlies was lost as Utah dropped their game at Orlando 3-0. That gap remains 3 points. So, needless to say, tonight's game has the utmost of importance for Alaska, as does Sunday's 1:05pm ADT road trip finale at Colorado.
In other Aces news, Stephen Perfetto picked up his first AHL point with an assist in Milwaukee's 5-2 win last night against Rockford.
