Florida Everblades News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - Rob Flick scored twice while Parker Milner stopped all but one of the 31 shots he faced to lead the South Carolina Stingrays (32-25-2-1, 67 pts) to a 2-1 win over the Florida Everblades (38-15-2-3, 81 pts) Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Following a few skirmishes to open the period, South Carolina would jump out to an early 1-0 advantage midway through the first period when Rob Flick cashed in on his chance from point blank range. Taking a centering feed from Steven McParland right in front of goal, Flick batted the puck towards goal, getting just enough on his shot to tip it just out of the reach of Everblades goaltender Anthony Peters.
In the second period, the game looked to be extremely even in nature. For every South Carolina scoring chance, the Everblades tried to match. Failing to convert on their own chances, the Everblades were eventually caught red handed on a turnover inside their own zone.
South Carolina managed to take advantage of an Everblades turnover at the blue line, by doubling their lead in the process. Weinstein fired a shot through some traffic where it deflected off the stick of Rob Flick and headed right past a screened Anthony Peters.
Following the goal, things got a bit nasty during the remaining part of the second period as there were a few hard hits throughout with the highlight of the altercations came when a fight erupted between Curt Gogol and Marcus Perrier. .
In the third, both teams came out looking to score what would be a game-changing goal. That goal would come midway through the third period as the Everblades cut the Stingrays lead in half off an impressive effort from Stephen MacAulay.
Stephen MacAulay broke his way into the attacking zone and cut in towards the net. Firing a quick wrist shot on goal, MacAulay sent the puck right off the side of South Carolina goaltender Parker Milner and into the back of the net.
The 'Blades continued to fight by throwing everything in their offensive arsenal at the Stingrays. Despite earning some scoring chances late in the period, the Everblades could not find a way to complete the comeback attempt.
Parker Milner was spectacular in goal for the Stingrays, stopping all but one of the 31 shots he faced. Anthony Peters was equally strong in goal for the Everblades but does suffer the loss after allowing two goals on 29 shots.
The Blades finish off their slate of three games in three days tomorrow afternoon, as they will once again do battle against the rival South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Colosseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. Eastern time. Fans can catch the game broadcast on WJBX News, Talk & More on 101.5-FM.104.3-FM, 770-AM or by CLICKING HERE
