MALLARDS NOTES

Last Night

Adam Vay made 22 saves and Donnie Harris and Brady Brassart scored key second period goals just over a minute apart as the Mallards shut out the host Nailers 3-0.

Central

The third-place Mallards are three points ahead of the fourth-place Kalamazoo Wings in the Central Division standings. The Mallards have two games in hand on Kalamazoo.

Back-to-Back

The Mallards have won back-to-back games. A 6-1 home win over the Indy Fuel last Saturday preceded last night's victory.

Fantastic Four

The Mallards are unbeaten in regulation (3-0-1) in their last four games.

Blanked

Last night's shutout was Vay's and the Mallards' second of the season.

Axtell

The Mallards have gone 14-6-1 in 21 games since Phil Axtell took over as head coach on January 20.

Road Warriors

The Mallards now boast a better record on the road (18-12-0) than at home (15-10-3).

Justin Kovacs picked up an assist last night to extend his point-scoring streak to four games (1-6-7).

By notching an assist last night, Grant Arnold stretched his point-scoring streak to four games (3-1-4).

Nolan LaPorte last night scored the Mallards' first goal with just 8.3 seconds left in the first period.

Harris last night scored in his return to his home state. The defenseman is a native of Fort Ashby, West Virginia.

Vay has held opponents scoreless for 118:28 since surrendering Bligh's early Indy goal last Saturday. Vay last night whitewashed the Nailers exactly one month after he posted his first ECHL shutout by stopping 31 shots in the Mallards' 4-0 victory over Kalamazoo on February 10.

Milestones

Mike Wilson last night recorded his two hundredth career regular season assist...Chris Francis has scored 97 career ECHL goals...Guillaume Gelinas has played 92 career games.

Special Teams

The Mallards survived the Nailers' lone power play last night and have now successfully completed 24 straight penalty kills. The Mallards rank fifteenth in the ECHL in penalty killing (82.4 percent). The Mallards went 0-for-3 on the power play last night and rank twenty-sixth in the league on the advantage (12.8 percent).

Head-to-Head

The Mallards last night secured their first win against the Nailers this season and their first ever victory in Wheeling. The Mallards have gone 1-3-0 against the Nailers this year heading into tonight's season series finale. The Mallards have gone 1-1-0 at Wesbanco Arena this season and 1-2-0 all-time. Overall, the Mallards have posted a 2-4-0 all-time record against the Nailers.
