South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (19-4-1-2) wrapped up a home-and-home weekend series against the Gwinnett Gladiators (7-17-0-1) with a 3-2 victory at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday evening.
The Stingrays started the scoring 12:30 into the first period when forward Lindsay Sparks forced a turnover off Gladiators goaltender Brad Philips (L, 26 saves on 29 shots) behind the net and found forward Luke Greiner on top of the crease for his first goal as a Stingray. Just over a minute later, Gladiators forward Josh Currie tied the contest tapping in a rebound past Stingrays netminder David LeNeveu (W, 19 saves on 21 shots) at 13:52. With 18 seconds remaining in the frame, forward Paul Rodrigues reclaimed the lead for the Stingrays redirecting a pass from forward Peter Boyd over the glove of Philips from the right-wing circle. Defenseman Jeremy Price picked up the second assist.
Gladiators forward Jeremy Malouin evened the contest at 16:31 of the second period, but Stingrays forward Wayne Simpson made it 3-2, the eventual game-winning tally, with 58 seconds remaining ripping a shot over the glove over Philips with help from Boyd. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-2.
