TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (18-3-1-3) head to Stockton Arena to play the second game of a three-game series against the Stockton Thunder (17-3-1-4). The Reign face the Thunder more than any other team this season, 14 times, and these weekend games are part of their only three-game series this regular season. Four times this season, including this weekend, these two clubs have a home-and-away series.
Ontario ranks first in the Pacific Division, Western Conference and the league with 40 points a .800 win percentage - Stockton is second, fourth, and 10th, respectively. The Reign are on a four-game winning streak and the Thunder are on a four-game point streak (two wins, two shootout losses).
CARDIAC KIDS:
This season the Reign have already gone to overtime 11 times. In seasons past the Reign have had, at most, up to 18 games decided in overtime or shootout through the duration of a 72-game season. Ontario's overtime record is 7-0-1-3 with wins in the last six overtime games. Of the 2013-14 overtimes seen by the Reign, Michael Hutchinson has been between the pipes for all but two games, which were played by Los Angeles Kings prospect Mathias Niederberger, recently activated from reserve.
LEADING THE PACK:
For the Reign, Jake Newton is the leading scorer against the Stockton Thunder with six points (4g, 2a). The defenseman also holds a +4 against the Thunder, fellow defenseman Matt Register has a team-high +5 against Stockton. Mike Towns leads the Reign in series penalty minutes with 17 - Garet Hunt has registered 12 penalty minutes against the Reign so far this season. Landon Oslanski's three points (1g, 2a) are tied with Joey Martin and the inactive Andrew Clark, are the highest against the Reign. Stockton's James Henry is the only Thunder player with a better-than-even plus-minus rating with a +1.
