Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has loaned forward Zack Torquato to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who have signed him to a 25-game professional tryout.

Torquato, 24, is currently enjoying his best start to a season, as he is tied for second in the ECHL in scoring, with nine goals, 22 assists, and 31 points in 25 games. Zack has had two very productive stretches, as he recorded 13 points in six games from November 15-27, while posting ten points in his most recent six games, prior to his trip to the AHL. This is the Sault Ste. Marie, ON native's fourth full season of professional hockey, and during the first two months of the season, he has hit a pair of career milestones, appearing in his 200th professional game, while dishing out his 100th professional assist. Torquato earned ECHL Player for the Week for November 18-24, and is the 14th player on this season's club to join an AHL roster.

Zack Torquato could make his season debut with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as early as Saturday, when the Penguins host the Syracuse Crunch. Meanwhile, the Wheeling Nailers will play host to the Evansville IceMen for the second night in a row, with face-off scheduled for 7:00.
