Elmira Jackals News Release
CINCINNATI, Oh. - December 21, 2013 - Tonight the Elmira Jackals wrap up a four-game road trip with a showdown in Cincinnati against the Cyclones. The Jackals are looking for retribution after a 5-0 loss here last night, and to go into the Christmas break on a high note.
WHO: Elmira Jackals - Ottawa and New Jersey/NHL & Binghamton and Albany/AHL (9-12-2) at Cincinnati Cyclones - Florida and Nashville/NHL & San Antonio and Milwaukee/AHL (15-8-2)
WHAT: Jackals Away Game #13. Head to SplitRock Brewing Company at First Arena for tonight's away game watch party. Game broadcast on Gem 98.7 FM begins at 7:20. Click here to listen live online.
WHERE: U.S. Bank Arena - 100 Broadway, Cincinnati, Oh. 45202
WHEN: 7:35 p.m.
The Jackals are facing the Cyclones tonight for the third of seven meetings this season, and second of five at U.S. Bank Arena. The Jackals are 1-1-0 against Cincinnati (0-1-0 on the road) thanks to Cincinnati's 5-0 win here last night. The loss was the third shutout defeat of the season for Elmira and the Jackals' most lopsided loss of the season. Cincinnati's win was its first at home against the Jackals since March of 2010 (0-4-0 prior), and also snapped Elmira's two-game road winning streak. The Jackals are looking to bounce back from last night's loss and avoid losing back-to-back games in regulation for the first time since November 15 and 16. Cincinnati, meanwhile, has earned at least one point in four straight (3-0-1) and is looking for its fourth win in the last five games.
Elmira has won five of its last seven games and is 6-3-1 over its last 10 games. Only S.C. (8), Ontario (8), and Florida (7) have won more in that time. The driving force behind the recent success is a stifling defense. Over their last 10 games the Jackals have held opponents to three goals or fewer in regulation nine times, and have not allowed more than two goals in seven of their last eight. With that run the Jackals now rank 14th in the league with a 3.04 team goals-against average. The team ECHL-era record for GAA is 2.83 from 2011-12.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return to home ice on Thursday, December 26 to take on the Reading Royals. You don't want to miss the world famous ZOOperstars! who will be performing live during the intermission! Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. Call 607-734-7825 to get your group outing booked.
