South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (14-13-1-0) erased two one-goal deficits to defeat Florida Everblades (17-13-0-0) 3-2 in the shootout in front of 2,669 at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon. The Stingrays head into the holiday break on a four-game winning streak.
Everblades forward Mike McKenzie opened the scoring at 14:54 of the first period slipping a wrist shot over the shoulder of Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Forward Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll and defenseman Bobby Raymond earned assists.
Stingrays forward Trent Campbell tied the contest on a shorthanded breakaway at 12:17 of the second period beating Everblades netminder Bobby Goepfert with a backhanded shot under the left arm. Forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien assisted on Campbell's third goal of the season.
The Everblades reclaimed the lead on the power play 48 seconds into the third period when forward Francis Lemieux deflected a shot from defenseman Ethan Graham past Ford. Defenseman David Fischer registered the second assist. Stingrays forward David de Kastrozza tied the contest back up with an unassisted marker at 10:54 sneaking a wrist shot over the glove of Goepfert from the top of the left-wing circle.
Both sides failed to light the lamp in overtime, and the game quickly moved to a shootout. Ford stopped all four Everblades shooters and forwards Rob Ricci and Tommy Goebel found the twine to seal the win. Goepfert suffered the loss stopping 21 of 23 Stingrays shots. Ford grabbed first-star honors pushing away 32 of 34 Everblades chances. The Stingrays ended the contest 0-for-4 on the power play while Florida went 1-for-4.
