Brodeur Recalled to Ottawa

December 19, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals announced Sunday that goaltender Mike Brodeur, who made 30 saves for the Jackals in a 5-0 shutout win against Toledo last night at First Arena, has been recalled to their NHL affiliate, the Ottawa Senators, on an emergency basis. Ottawa hosts the Washington Capitals at 7:30 p.m. tonight, and Brodeur will back up Senators goaltender Brian Elliott.

Brodeur was Saturday night's first star as the Jackals earned their first shutout victory of the 2010-2011 season. The shutout was Elmira's first since Mar. 21 of last season when the Jackals blanked the Johnstown Chiefs.

Brodeur, who is 2-1 with the Jackals this season with a .911 save percentage and a 2.44 goals-against average, played in three games last season with the Senators, going 3-0 with a .966 save percentage, a 1.00 goals-against average, and a shutout. The Calgary native became the fourth goaltender in the NHL's modern era to win his first two starts while allowing no more than a goal in the two games combined.

Brodeur has played in one game this season with Elmira's AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, making 27 saves on 28 shots in 55 minutes in a B-Sens victory over Adirondack before leaving the game due to an injury.

DESNOYERS RETURNED FROM PEORIA

The Jackals also announced Sunday that defenseman Marc-Antoine Desnoyers has been returned to the team by the AHL's Peoria Rivermen.

Elmira loaned Desnoyers to Peoria on Friday, and the rookie defenseman played in one game for the Rivermen, notching two penalty minutes. He has four assists in 12 games with the Jackals.

The Jackals are back at home on Jan. 7 and 8 when they host the Kalamazoo Wings at First Arena. For tickets, call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
