
Wranglers Double up on Steelheads, 6-3

Las Vegas, Nev.-The Las Vegas Wranglers (15-6-2) defeated the Idaho Steelheads (12-9-6) 6-3 in front of 3,168 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Greg Collins had two goals to lead the offensive attack for the Wranglers. Michael Ouzas moved to 11-3-1 making 27 saves on 30 shots. Junior Lessard had two goals in the loss for the Steelheads while Mike Zacharias fell to 7-4-1 after stopping 16 of 20 Wrangler shots.
Idaho scored the first goal of the game just 1:53 into the contest when Junior Lessard netted his first of the afternoon. Kael Mouillierat earned the only assist on Lessard's second goal of the year. Las Vegas responded with three straight goals. Jamie Fritsch got his first goal of the season at the 4:54 mark of the first. Blake Gallagher got the assist on the defenseman's goal. Greg Collins got his first goal of the night at 7:12 of the period after chipping in a pass from Blair Riley. Geoff Paukovich earned the other assist. Ryan Huddy finished off the first period scoring with a power play goal at 16:45 of the opening frame. Craig Switzer and Barry Goers each added assists on Huddy's team leading tenth goal of the year. The Wranglers led 3-1 at the end of the first period.
Las Vegas extended the lead with a goal from Jamie Bates at 2:14 of the second period. Bates redirected a wrist shot from the near side point from Sean McMonagle that beat Zacharias five-hole. Barry Goers chipped in his second assist of the night on Bates' forth goal of the year. Idaho got a goal at 14:10 of the second period to cut the lead to 4-2 when Junior Lessard scored his second of the night. John Scott Dickson and Adam Huxley got the assists on Lessard's third goal of the year.
In the third period, the Steelheads cut the lead to 4-3 on a penalty shot goal from Mark Derlago at 2:07 of the third. The Wranglers got an insurance goal from Greg Collins at 12:47 to give Las Vegas the two-goal lead at 5-3. Blair Riley and Geoff Paukovich each earned their second assists of the game on Collins' sixth goal of the year, and third in the last two games. Blake Gallagher iced the game with an empty net goal at 19:25 of the third period. It was the rookie's forth goal of the season and ended the scoring at 6-3.
The Wranglers are off for the holiday break for the week and return to action in Ontario next Sunday afternoon. Las Vegas returns home for the Eighth Annual Midnight Holiday Round Up game when they host the Utah Grizzlies December 27th at 11:59pm.
The Las Vegas Wranglersé are the ECHL affiliate to the National Hockey League's Phoenix Coyotes and the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage.
