WHEELING, WV ‚¬" Andrew Sarauer scored twice as the Reading Royals rallied to defeat the Wheeling Nailers 3-2 at WesBanco Arena Sunday night.

The Nailers raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. The first goal came after a Casey Pierro Zabotel shot which was stopped by Royals goaltender Matt Dalton, however the rebound was picked up by Nick Petersen who fired the puck into the net for the goal. Wheeling scored its second goal in a similar fashion, as Pierro-Zabotel scooped the puck off a rebound and flipped it past Dalton, to give the Nailers a 2-0 lead at 7:07 of the first period.

Despite the tough start, the Royals would respond scoring three unanswered goals. The first was scored by Andrew Sarauer who picked up the rebound on the shortside post and slipped it past Nailers netminder Patrick Killeen. Reading tied the game at two at 3:20 into the second, as Robert Slaney fired a sniper type shot from the right circle which squeezed past the glove of Killeen. Andrew Sarauer scored his second goal of the game nearly three minutes later, as he stole the puck at center and entered the zone on a shorthanded breakaway, and beating Killeen on the blocker side, to give his team the 3-2 lead.

The Nailers continued to press in the third, outshooting reading 34-30 for the game, but Matt Dalton turned aside all the shots down the stretch to preserve the 3-2 win. Despite the loss, the Nailers head into the holiday break with the number one spot in the North Division.

The Nailers next home game is Sunday December 26, against the Cincinnati Cyclones at WesBanco Arena. Game time is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Paddington Bear will be on hand to meet and greet with kids, and there will be a postgame skate with the Nailers players.
