Tanguay sets up a pair of goals to give Alaska three-game sweep
December 19, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
ANCHORAGE - Maxime Tanguay collected a pair of assists, including one on the game-winner to Jared Stewart in the second period to help the Alaska Aces defeat the Stockton Thunder (12-8-4, 28 points), 5-2, before 4,202 fans at Sullivan Arena on Saturday.
The Thunder, who were swept in a three-game series for the first time all season, battled back twice to tie the game in the first and second period on a power-play goal from Ryan Constant, and Craig Valette's first goal since coming back to the active roster.
Gerald Coleman won his fourth straight game in net (10-7-1), making 31 saves and topping Bryan Pitton's 22 stops, who took the defeat.
Alex Dzielski's third goal of the season lifted Alaska to a 1-0 lead just 2:07 into the game, taking Steve Ward's feed at the right point and sneaking a wrist shot through traffic.
Constant's power-play goal leveled the score, 1-1 with 7:45 left in the first period. He took an Aaron Clarke pass while on the rush, and buried a snap shot from the right circle, through Gerald Coleman's five hole for his third goal of the year.
Mark Isherwood tied the game at 7:42 in the second period on the power-play, driving a one-timer past Pitton from the high slot on Tanguay's set-up from the right point.
Valette's second goal of the season and first back from injury tied the game, 2-2 at 11:37 when he finished Dan Ringwald's feed at the front of the net.
Alaska reclaimed the edge, 3-2 with 5:07 left when Stewart finished Tanguay's centering pass between the hash marks, flipping a shot under the crossbar.
Creating another chance off the rush was Chris Langkow, who netted his eighth goal of the season with 10:01 left in regulation for 4-2 Alaska advantage when he cradled Zach Harrison's feed to the left wing, raced behind the Thunder defense and converted a deke to the forehand.
The Thunder were unable to find two goals in the remaining minutes for a rally. After pulling Pitton for a 6-on-4 skating advantage along with a Steve Ward tripping penalty, Russ Sinkewich buried an empty net goal from his own zone, 170 feet away to finish the scoring with 1:15 left in the game.
Stockton dropped to 0-4-1 in the last five all-time games at Sullivan Arena, dating back to 2009-10.
