
Stingrays Extend Point Streak with 3-2 Shootout Victory over Road Warriors

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (34-24-4-3) extended their home point streak to a season-high 13 games (11-0-2-0) defeating the Greenville Road Warriors (32-24-2-5) 3-2 in the shootout at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
Forward Patrick Gaul put the Stingrays up 1-0 at 12:40 of the first period deflecting a shot from defenseman Derek Foam between the legs of Road Warriors goaltender Scott Stajcer (SOL, 14 saves on 16 shots). Forward Alex MacLeod picked up the second assist.
In the second period, forward Chris Langkow gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead 53 seconds into the frame with help from forward Tyler Johnson and defenseman Scooter Vaughan . Seconds later, the Road Warriors pulled the game back within on with a goal from forward Jordie Johnston at 1:08. Forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand tied the contest on the power play with his 20 goal of the season lifting a shot over the left shoulder of Stingrays goaltender Ryan Zapolski (W, 30 saves on 32 shots) from the top of the right-wing circle.
After a scoreless third period of action, the two sides moved into overtime and the shootout. Forwards Andrew Cherniwchan and Johnson lit the lamp and Zapolski stopped four of five Road Warriors shooters to seal the victory. The Stingrays ended the contest 0-for-5 on the power play while Greenville went 1-for-3.
The Stingrays kickoff a three-game road trip against the Florida Everblades on Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena in Ft.
