March 10, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
STOCKTON, Calif . - The Ontario Reign (42-16-3-3), back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, fell to the Stockton Thunder (32-24-5-4) before 4,358 on Sunday evening at Stockton Arena.
The Thunder took charge in the first period going up 2-0 by the 5:11 mark. Nathan Deck scored the first Thunder goal on a rebound that caught Dustin Carlson off guard. Shawn Weller picked up his first of three assists on the goal.
Ryan Hayes scored the next goal off a top shelf wrist shot from the left circle set up by Weller and Shawn Boutin.
Mario Lamoureux got the Reign on the board with just 36 seconds remaining in the first period as he deked his way to the front of the Thunder cage. With help from Derek Couture and Kyle Kraemer, the rookie put in his 25th goal of the season, sending the Reign into the second period trailing 2-1.
Around the eight minute mark, Weller struck again for the Thunder. The forward skated in with the puck and scored on a backhanded chip-in to reestablish a two-goal lead for the Thunder.
Kraemer brought the Reign back into the game when there was a scrum in front of Tyler Bunz. Kraemer took advantage of the traffic poking the puck past the goalie, diminishing the two-goal lead to just one at 3-2.
With less than two minutes remaining in the second period the Thunder lit the lamp again taking a 4-2 lead with Hayes' slap shot from just inside the slot, once again beating the glove of Carlson.
Kraemer got on the score sheet with the only goal of the final frame. Cameron Burt sent a pass to Kraemer at the Thunder blue line; he skated it in and with a forehand shot beat the glove of Bunz to bring the game within just one goal with a final score of 4-3.
Carlson took the loss with 27 saves on 31 shots; Bunz earned the win with 25 saves on 28 shots.
