South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that former Stingrays player and local business owner Rob Concannon has been named the team's president. He will be introduced as the Stingrays' eighth president in team history on Friday, March 26 during the first intermission of the Stingrays game against the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum.

Concannon is replacing Darren Abbott, who announced in February that he was leaving the Stingrays to become the President of the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.

"It is a tremendous honor to be named the president of the South Carolina Stingrays," said Concannon. "I am very excited to face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of me and I look forward to becoming even more a part of a city and team I deeply love."

"Rob brings a tremendous amount of passion, excitement and business experience to the position of President of the South Carolina Stingrays," said Stingrays owner Anita Zucker. "I look forward to a great future working with Rob and the outstanding 'off ice team'."

Concannon, who played for the Stingrays from 1995 to 2000, was a member of the 1997 Kelly Cup Championship team and was inducted into the Stingrays Hall of Fame in 2005. He retired from hockey with the sixth most games played in Stingrays history, at 330, and sixth in all-time Stingrays points with 231 (111g, 120a). In addition to the Stingrays, Concannon skated for the Idaho Steelheads and Greenville Growl during his eight-year hockey career. He currently owns Trio Club in downtown Charleston, which he will continue to maintain while taking on his new role as President.

"After an exhaustive national search for a new President, we are thrilled to have found an excellent candidate in our own Stingrays family," owner Jonathan Zucker said. "We are confident that Rob's passion for hockey and his incredible entrepreneurial spirit will help lead the Stingrays organization to new heights."

A native of Dorchester, MA, Concannon graduated from Salem Sate College in 1995 with a major in Sociology and a minor in Business.

The Stingrays return to action on Friday, March 26 against the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum for The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night and Fan Appreciation Night. Friday is also FREE PARKING and $2 Beer Night. Don't miss any of the fast-paced, hard-hitting action of the South Carolina Stingrays. Ticket packages for the 2010-11 season are on sale now for as low as $31 a month. Call the Stingrays front office at 744-2248 or click here for more information.
