Condors complete comeback, top Grizzlies 5-4 in OT

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - The Bakersfield Condors (35-28-4-1, 75pts) climbed back from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Utah Grizzlies (31-29-3-5, 70pts) 5-4 in overtime at the E-Center on Friday night. LW Dan Kissel tallied two goals, including the equalizer late in the third period. D Sasha Pokulok capped off the comeback with the overtime tally, while G Timo Pielmeier earned the win and two assists. Bakersfield's magic number to clinch the playoffs is at three.

Bakersfield got the scoring started at 5:22 of the first period on a goal by RW Ryan Menei. But Utah countered with three consecutive goals to finish the scoring in the opening frame. LW A.J. Perry scored at 9:39, while shorthanded, LW Dylan Hunter tallied with 6:21 remaining and F Tim Crowder made it 3-1 with 3:10 to play. Despite being out-scored, Bakersfield led 11-9 in shots after 20 minutes.

Play settled down in the middle frame, as neither team put one past the opposing netminder. Pielmeier stopped all 12 Utah shots he faced and G Mitch O'Keefe turned aside the 10 Condors shots he saw.

The third period saw the Condors explode for three goals. Kissel scored just 38 seconds into the period to cut the lead to 3-2. The Condors were helped by a string of four consecutive power plays to even the score. With 9:19 remaining in the period, F Andrew Ianiero scored his 16th goal of the season on the power play to make it 3-3. Utah regained the lead when Perry scored his second of the game with 5:54 left in regulation. Kissel came up huge, knotting the game at four with his second of the game and third of the season with just 1:41 remaining in the third to send the game into overtime. After regulation, the Condors had a 34-31 shot advantage.

In overtime, Pokulok completed the comeback by scoring with 1:22 left in overtime on his 12th goal of the season. Bakersfield took two shots in overtime to Utah's one to finish with a 35-33 shot lead.
