Stewart Returns to Fisher Cats, But Falls 5-2 in Portland

(Portland, ME)---Travis d'Arnaud went 3-for-4 with a home run for the second consecutive night and Zach Stewart did not allow an earned run in six innings in his first start since returning from the Toronto Blue Jays, but the Fisher Cats fell 5-2 in Portland on Sunday night.

Portland (30-50) took three of four games in the series. The Sea Dogs scored three unearned runs off Stewart (4-4) in the bottom of the second inning. Oscar Tejeda (2-for-4) singled, Jon Hee reached on a fielders choice/error, and Mitch Dening drilled an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Jeremy Hazelbaker singled but was erased on a double play as Hee scored. Chih-Hsien Chiang doubled in Denning to make it 3-0.

The Fisher Cats (47-33) did not break through against Portland starter Alex Wilson until two outs in the top of the seventh inning, when d'Arnaud hit his tenth home run of the season to make it 3-1.

Portland added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Alex Hassan walked, Chiang singled and Will Middlebrooks doubled to make it 4-1. Chiang then scored on a wild pitch.

The final run for New Hampshire came across in the top of the eighth inning on a single by Callix Crabbe and a triple by Justin Jackson.

Stewart worked six innings, allowing six hits and three unearned runs. He walked two and struck out four. Wilson (7-4) won for Portland. Blake Maxwell recorded the final four outs for his seventh save.
