Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Reading, PA) -- Tyler Cloyd tossed seven solid innings, added an RBI at the plate, and the R-Phils earned a series victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels with a 4-3 win on Sunday evening in the finale of their four-game series from FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, PA.

Cloyd (2-1, 3.79) won for the second time over his last three starts, and was effective in the finale. The Bellevue, NE allowed just two runs on four hits and earned his second win of the season - both coming in Baseballtown. His solid outing helped Reading take the series against Richmond and helped the club to their sixth win in seven days.

The last time he took the mound in Reading, Cloyd tossed eight brilliant innings and led Reading to a much-needed win. The 24-year-old, who began the season in Clearwater (A+), is now 2-1 with a 2.81 ERA in five home starts. He was also 1-3 at the plate and now has two RBIs on the season.

Joe Savery made another appearance out of the R-Phils bullpen, and came on in relief of Cloyd. Savery, who entered the game with four scoreless innings this season, allowed one run on two hits in just 0.2 innings pitched. The 2009 Eastern League All-Star now has a 1.93 ERA for the R-Phils in three appearances.

Justin Friend, who was promoted to Reading on June 16, got the final four outs of the evening for the R-Phils. Friend, 25, had 19 saves for Clearwater, and after another good outing on Sunday, now has four saves with the R-Phils overseven appearances.

Offensively, Reading (42-40) scored all four runs off Richmond starter Henry Sosa (4-1, 2.57), who lasted just 5.2 innings on Sunday. Sosa, a native of the Dominican Republic, allowed eight hits and two walks. The young righty entered Sunday's game with a personal four-game win-streak - but Reading's offense shot that down.

Matt Rizzotti ripped two hits on the evening, and every starter had a hit except for Freddy Galvis. Steve Susdorf continued his solid display of offense, extending his hit-streak to seven-straight games.

Reading will now hit the road and spend the next four-days in Bowie, MD facing the Bowie Baysox. On Monday - the Fourth of July, Reading will send RHP Austin Hyatt (7-5, 4.18) to the hill in game one. Bowie RHP Zack Clark (5-7, 4.79) gets the nod for the Baysox.

He's now hitting .329 on the season... Reading returns to FirstEnergy Stadium on Friday, July 8 for a four-game series with the Trenton Thunder...
