Chesapeake Baysox News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Baysox catcher Caleb Joseph delivered a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning as Bowie topped the Binghamton Mets 4-3 Sunday night in Binghamton. With the victory, the Baysox take the season series from the B-Mets 4-3, and return to .500 at 40-40.

Bowie scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning and never trailed in the contest. First baseman Brandon Waring led off with a single to center field and moved to second base when shortstop Pedro Florimon lined a two-out single to left field. Ronnie Welty drew a walk to load the bases, and Binghamton starter Robert Carson threw a wild pitch with center fielder Kyle Hudson batting. Waring scored on the wild pitch, putting Bowie in front 1-0. The Baysox are 30-11 when scoring first this season.

Third baseman Buck Britton extended the lead by two more runs in the top of the third inning. Second baseman Greg Miclat led off the frame with a double to left field and Britton launched his second home run of the season to right field. The blast extended Britton's hitting streak to 10 games, one short of the Baysox season long of 11, set by Joseph and Xavier Avery.

Binghamton answered with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Catcher Jean Luc Blaquiere led off with a double off the wall left field and moved to third on a single by Matt Den Dekker. Shortstop Jordany Valdespin put Binghamton on the board with an RBI single to right field, as Den Dekker advanced to second base. The Mets executed a successful double steal with two outs and Salomon Manriquez drew a walk to load the bases, but Baysox starter Rick Zagone induced a ground ball off the bat of Raul Reyes to end the inning with Bowie on top 3-1.

The Mets tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Eric Campbell led off with a double to center field and Travis Ozga singled to left field to put runners on the corners with no outs. Blaquiere drove in the first run of the inning with a single to left field as Ozga advanced to second base. Jose Coronado attempted to bunt the runners into scoring position, but Zagone fielded the ball and threw Ozga out at third base. Den Dekker hit a potential inning-ending double play ball to Waring as the first baseman fielded the ball and threw to Florimon for the second out of the inning. Florimon committed a throwing error on the play, as Den Dekker reached first base safely and Blaquiere scored to tie the game at 3-3.

The game would remain tied until the top of the eighth inning. Left fielder LJ Hoes led off the frame with a double to left-center field and moved to third base as Waring executed a sacrifice bunt. Joseph lifted the sacrifice fly to center field and Hoes slid in safely in front of Den Dekker's throw to the plate. Designated Hitter Robbie Widlansky hit a two-out single back up the middle and was pinch run for by Avery, but Florimon grounded out to end the inning with Bowie leading 4-3.

Zagone did not record a decision after holding the Mets to three runs, two earned, on nine hits and two walks through five complete innings. Right-hander Eddie Gamboa earned the victory with four scoreless innings of relief, improving to 2-3 on the season.

The Baysox put runners on base in each of the first five innings, and going back to Saturday they put runners on base in 14 consecutive innings. Britton, Hoes and Widlansky each had multi-hit games, and four different Baysox scored in the contest.

Four Binghamton, Valdespin, Campbell and Blaquiere combined to go 11-for-13 with two doubles and two runs batted in, but the rest of the team combined to go 2-for-23.

The Baysox welcome the Reading Phillies to town for a four game series starting Monday, July 4. RHP Zach Clark (5-7, 4.79) takes the mound for Bowie, he is opposed by RHP Austin Hyatt (7-5, 4.18).

The Baysox began a seven-game road trip Monday, June 27 and return home Monday, July 4 for a four game home stand that features their Independence Day Celebration with an extended fireworks extravaganza Monday, Tailgate Tuesday and Free Food Tuesday night, Veteran's Appreciation Night Wednesday and the Mystery Bobblehead Giveaway and Festivus Miracle Thursday night.
