B-Mets Run Themselves into 4-3 Loss

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets were caught stealing three times and Jordany Valdespin ended the game by being thrown at second attempting to stretch a single into a double in a 4-3 loss to the Bowie Baysox tonight at NYSEG Stadium.
The woes on the basepaths started early for the B-Mets. Jordany Valdespin stroked a one-out double down the first base line in the first innings, but was thrown out trying to steal third base.
History repeated itself in the second. Eric Campbell got aboard with a one-out single but was picked off and caught stealing by Bowie starter Rick Zagone.
The Baysox jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a run in the second and two more in the third against Binghamton starter Robert Carson. The left-hander settled down after that to post three shutout innings.
Binghamton got on the board with a three-hit third inning. Jean Luc Blaquiere led off with a double off the left field wall, moved to third on Matt den Dekker's single, and came home on Jordany Valdespin's single to right field.
They tied things up with a pair of runs in the fourth on three hits and a lucky bounce. Eric Campbell's lead-off double was followed by back-to-back singles from Travis Ozga and Blaquiere. Campbell came home on the final hit.
After a bunt from Jose Coronado went for a fielder's choice, Matt den Dekker grounded one to first. Brandon Waring threw to second for one out, but Pedro Florimon's relay throw to first bounced off Coronado's helmet and into right field. With the ball loose, Blaquiere scampered home with the game-tying run.
With the game still tied, Carson gave way to Ricky Brooks in the seventh. The right-hander put up one scoreless frame before things took a turn for the worse in the eighth.
LJ Hoes led off the frame with a double to left centerfield and advanced to third on Brandon Waring's sacrifice bunt. Caleb Joseph brought Hoes home with the go-ahead run on a sac fly to center field.
Reliever Eddie Gamboa took the ball from Zagone in the sixth and made it to the finish line, tossing four scoreless innings en route to his second win of the year.
With two outs in the ninth, Valdespin ripped a bouncer into right field. The shortstop tried to stretch the hit into a double, but was thrown out by Ronnie Welty to end the game.
The B-Mets (29-52) start a five-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs tomorrow night at 6:35pm. RHP Jeurys Familia (0-2, 3.35) will face RHP Chris Balcom-Miller (1-3, 3.58). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:20pm on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
