West Virginia Black Bears News Release
Granville,WV - The West Virginia Black Bears will be having a special appearance by former Pirates great Steve Blass at Monongalia County Ballpark on Tuesday, June 30 when the team takes on the Hudson Valley Renegades with a scheduled start time of 7:05 p.m. This marks the first of several Pirates Pride Tuesdays being held at the ballpark this season.
Blass will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of the game and will also be available before and during the game for autograph and photo opportunities in the concourse. Blass will be the second Pirates great to visit the ballpark this season, after Kent Tekulve threw out the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Night.
The former pitcher tossed two complete games in the 1971 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles and retired the final batter in Game 7 to claim the championship. In 1983, he joined the Pirates television and radio broadcast in 1983 where he can still be found doing strictly home games.
