Lowell Spinners News Release

BURLINGTON, VT - After coming back and then holding on for a thrilling 5-3 victory in the first game of a doubleheader, the Lowell Spinners couldn't muster enough offense to overtake the Vermont Lake Monsters, falling 1-0 in Game 2, leaving the tying run at third base to end the game.

Vermont (4-7) used the long ball to score the game's first and only run. With one out in the fifth inning, catcher Seong-min Kim hit an 0-2 offering from Spinner starter Luis Ramos (1-1, 4.91) over the right field wall.

Lowell (9-2) threatened in the top of the seventh as Hector Lorenzana singled to lead off the inning and was replaced by pinch runner Jeremy Rivera. Rivera then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tucker Tubbs and moved to third on a wild pitch. But he was stranded at third as Josh Ockimey struck out looking and Victor Acosta grounded out to end the game.

Ramos, who retired seven in a row before the home run, gave the Spinners a quality start, tossing six innings of five-hit ball with three strikeouts.

Acosta, Lorenzana and Luis Alexander Basabe each had a hit for Lowell as the potent Lowell offense was quiet for the second half of the evening.

Danny Rosenbaum (0-0, 3.38) will take the ball for the series finale tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
