
Black Bears Fall to Renegades 7-1

West Virginia Black Bears News Release
(Granville, W. Va. - June 29) - The West Virginia Black Bears were defeated by the Hudson Valley Renegades 7-1 on Monday night at Monongalia County Ballpark. SS Erik Forgione drove in the Black Bears' lone run in the second game of the series.
Starting pitcher Bret Helton started off the game rolling with five strikeouts through the first two innings before the Renegades struck first by scoring two runs in the third on an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly. In the bottom half of the inning Black Bears 1B David Andriese led off the inning with an infield single to shortstop which was followed by a single to right by C Deybi Garcia. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third before SS Erik Forgione grounded out to first, scoring Andriese to make the score 2-1.
The Renegades added on three more runs in the fourth followed by two more runs in the seventh inning. Starter Bret Helton suffered the loss (0-2) after surrendering three runs (all earned) in three innings pitched while Hudson Valley starter Travis Ott earned the win (1-0) after hurling five innings, allowing one run (earned).
The Black Bears return to action tomorrow evening, June 30 in the final game of the series against the Hudson Valley Renegades with a scheduled start time of 7:05 p.m. Former Pirates great Steve Blass will make an appearance during the game and will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
