Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho – In a game that featured four ties and three lead changes, Chris Marinucci fired home the game-winner three minutes after a flukish tying goal as Idaho nipped Anchorage 5-4 Friday night before 5,017 at the Bank of America Centre.

Idaho dominated the first period but Anchorage scored the game's first goal and a give-and-go between Dave Csumrik and Carl Drakensjo, who buried his fifth of the year on the return pass just inside the right post only 2:04 into the game. Wes Dorey tied the contest at 6:59 when Aces' netminder Ryan Person was slow to retrieve a loose puck in front. 32 seconds later, Anchorage regained the lead on a drive from Ruslan Batyrshin, his first point of any kind this year, that beat a screened Idaho goaltender Blair Allison. The Steelheads needed only 1:17 to pull even once again, as Chris Marinucci banged home another loose puck in front. Marinucci set up Joe Rybar, the leading scorer in the WCHL, for the go-ahead goal at 13:44. Idaho led just 3-2 despite outshooting the Aces 17-3 in the opening 20 minutes.

Anchorage fought off five power play chances for the Steelheads in the second period and outshot them 16-12, tying the game on Yvan Corbin's 10th goal of the year (and his first in seven games) at 3:55. The Aces regained the lead at 4-3 with a power play goal 7:15 into the final period, courtesy of B.J. Young. But in a play perhaps emblematic of the two clubs' respective seasons, Idaho forward Ben Keup came up with the equalizer from his knees, banking the puck off the left wrist of Person and into the back of the net after the Anchorage netminder had foiled Keup on an initial breakaway. Marinucci broke the 4-4 deadlock with 5:02 left in regulation, ripping a one-timer past Person to give the Steelheads (14-4-2) their seventh straight win over the Aces.

Person finished with 38 saves for Anchorage, which dropped its third straight to sink to 4-13-1 overall on the season. Idaho is unbeaten in its last seven and will look to sweep the series in the finale tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. AST.

All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
