SeaWolves down Kingfish 5-3

Steve Cheredaryk tallied two third period goals and the Kingfish outshot the SeaWolves 41-25 but it wasn't enough as Baton Rouge fell 5-3.

Mississippi opened the scoring in the first period with a power play goal as Mike Scott beat an out of position Jeff Blair to give the Sea Wolves the 1-0 lead. Cody Botwell didn't get good wood on a slapshot from the point and it trickled to an open Scott in the faceoff circle at the 4:15 mark of the first period. Dave Paradise also added an assist on the goal.

Travis Lisabeth gave the Sea Wolves a 2-0 lead about 10 minutes later as he took an outlet pass from Patrick Rochon at the red line. He beat Blair over the right shoulder from the top of the face-off circle at the 13:14 mark of the period as Botwell also added an assist.

With less than two minutes left in the second period, Patrick Rochon extended the SeaWolves lead to three with a blast from the point. Paradise and Jeff Hutchins each added an assist on the goal.

The Kingfish cut the SeaWolves lead to two just 2:16 into the third period on a slapshot from the high slot. Kevin Tucker added an assist.

Dave Paradise regained the three goal lead for the SeaWolves just 46 seconds later as Paradise beat Blair. Austin Miller and Mike Scott added the assists.

Cody Botwell gave the SeaWolves a 5-1 lead as he punced the puck past Blair off a centering pass from Travis Lisabeth at the 4:38 mark of the third period. John Evangelista added an assist on the goal as well.

Sam Paquet cut into the Mississippi lead at the 4:49 mark on a bad angle shot from the right corner that beat Gardner. Mike Kiesman and Garnet Jacobson added an assist on the goal.

Steve Cheredayrk added his second of the game at the 6:22 mark of the period as he slipped a shot through Gardner's legs. Trevor Demmans and Bryan Richardson added an assist on the goal.

The Kingfish could get not closer as they went 1-6 on the man advantage as Jeff Blair made 20 save in net for the Kingfish.

The Kingfish battle the RiverBlades tomorrow in Little Rock at 7:00 p.m. before returning home on Saturday for the second game of the home-and-home set with the RiverBlades. The action gets underway at the Centroplex at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday.
